Oosman sait was a true follower of Mahatma Gandhi and the freedom movement. Once When the mahatma was staying as a guest in his house, on St. Marks Road... he presented a blank cheque to the Mahatma to draw as mush money he wanted. Gandhiji used to describe him, as the CASH BAG of he Indian national Congress (at those times) |

But, his generosity impoverished him gradually. With four sons (Ebraham/Khader/Yakub/Yusuf) and a daughter (Ayesha), Oosman SAIT'S finances started dwindling.Still, his devetion to raise money, for the cause...Haji Oosman Sait had put his eldest son (E BRAHIM) for auction in public to contribute! It so happened, that one of his gesture... that he made the highest bid and gave the payment to Haji Sait and also returned his son. That money too, went to the freedom movement! |

Reminisces, Javeed (eldest amongst twenty-two grand-children) "my grandpa was thrown into Jail for more than 10 times! He never allowed the British soldiers to touch Him! Also, none of his children were sent to english medium schools. Such, was his passion towards our motherland". |
|
It is said, that when Haji Oosman Sait passed away, his funeral drew a five km long trail of mourners from Jama Masjid to Richards town residence, with a multitude of people weeping inconsolably. Javeed has the last word "My grandfather always used to tell us...Live for India; Die for india". |
